Neusteters Denver from “Fashion Capital of the Rockies” to Downtown Historic Living
The history of the building at 720 16th Street started in 1905 when it was built. It was acquired by the Neusteter family in the early 1910s with the intention to open a department store. Originally, it stood at three stories tall, but looking to expand the retail space of the department store, it was expanded from 3,000-foot floor space to 9,000 and also expanded to five floors. The Neusteter department store was then reopened on September 6, 1924.
That wouldn’t be the last time that the building would be modified. In 1952, an addition expanded the building further.
Neusteter Department Store remained open until 1985. The space was then recognized as a landmark by the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. In the early 1990s, the space was converted into condos and functions as such today.
